High Fructose Corn Syrup

High Fructose Corn Syrup

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is an artificial sweetener and sugar substitute.

It costs much less than sugar, which starts off the first problem: It’s in nearly everything.

Danger

Recently, HFCS has increasingly been under controversy because of new studies linking it with obesity and type II diabetes.

When normal sugar is consumed, the body uses some of it for energy. Any additional sugar is converted to fat and stored as such.

With HFCS, your body does not recognize it as a sugar so instead immediately registers it as a fat. This of course causes the obvious, an increase in fat.

However to process fat, your body’s pancreas uses insulin to break down and store it. By wasting insulin on HFCS, throughout your life you can end up running low, which would result in obesity and eventually diabetes.

HFCS is in an unbelievably large amount of products, check your labels at home and you will be surprised.

Some common places you may find it are:
-ALMOST ALL SODAS (only very select few do not have it)
-Heinz Ketchup (used in almost every restaurant in the country!)
-Cereal
-Cookies
-Crackers
-Salad dressings
-Granola bars
-Gatorade/ other sports drinks
-Processed breads/ desserts
-Commercial maple syrup (small glass jars are the real ones)
